Vinous Comment - Score: 97(2016 June)
Golden yellow. Ripe peach, pear nectar, strawberry, grilled nuts and smoked beef on the captivating nose. Smooth and harmonious on the palate, conveying a captivating sugar/acid balance and a compelling creamy-rich texture. Really saturates the palate with superconcentrated, thick flavors of apple, pear, smoky iodine and botanical herbs. Classically dry on the extremely long, rich, refined finish. This very complex wine tastes completely dry, despite the Vendange Tardive designation on the label. I’ll admit to being partial to the 1983 Pinot Gris Clos Saint Urbain, which is to this day one of my all-time favorite Pinot Gris wines; I loved it on release and 33 years later I still do.
